18/11/2024Our ‘Proud to Belong; Community’ value was at the heart of a co-curricular trip last week when the Music Department took a small group of Year 7 students to the Chestnut View Care Home in Haslemere.
The group, accompanied by Mrs Young, performed an afternoon concert for the care home residents with songs focused on ‘growing up’. The students gave rousing renditions of ‘When I Grow Up’ from the musical Matilda and ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman, amongst others.
The students then enjoyed refreshments with the residents and had an opportunity to hear their stories and experiences about growing up.

14/11/2024Tomorrow (Friday) we are going to be raising money for the much loved charity, BBC Children in Need, and hosting lots of fun fundraising activities all with a strong ‘bear’ theme!
Pudsey activities will cost either 50p or £1 and students are invited to bring in a few coins to take part. Activities will not only raise money for this incredible cause but also house points and prizes!
So what’s on….
· “Bear with me” Quiz – A fun bear-themed quiz during tutor time.
· “Who’s that Bear?” – Guess the Name of the Bear, a competition at break and lunchtime in the Main Hall.
· “Bearly Believe It!” – Guess How Many Bears in the Jar, another fun challenge during break and lunchtime in the Main Hall.
· “WHs Beary Good Bake Off” – Students are invited to bring in their bear-themed cakes to be judged at lunchtime in the food tech room.
· “Bear Pong Bash” – A competitive game of Ping Pong in the gym at lunchtime.
BBC Children in Need uses the funds raised to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Every donation, no matter how small, helps make a meaningful difference in the lives of children who need it most, giving them the chance to build a brighter future.
If you would like to make a direct donation to the appeal, you can do so via this link: https://donate.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/.
Thank you for supporting this important cause. We are looking forward to a Pudsey Bear Friday!

12/11/2024All our students have been invited to take part in an inspiring competition designed to encourage students across the country to choose a poem, learn it by heart and perform it out loud.
Mrs Watson launched the in-school competition for Poetry By Heart with year group assemblies last week and ‘learn a poem in 30 minutes’ in tutor time sessions. Mrs Watson, Mr Wakely, and Mr Cook all recited poems to show students how joyful poetry can be, but also how important it is to overcome your fears. Mr Cook’s performance of the Jabberwocky was the highlight of the week!
All students are welcome to enter the competition and anyone that is interested, should join the Google Classroom using the code from their tutor, or the student bulletin, and explore the Poetry By Heart website for ideas. With two different competitions to enter and the deadline not until 16th December, there's plenty of time to get reciting. WHS finalists will be announced in January and following the in-school finals, our winners will be put forward to the national Poetry by Heart competition, the finalists for which will be invited to compete at the Shakespeare's Globe next summer.
This is a really exciting opportunity to be creative, collaborate with others, learn new skills, and potentially perform on stage at the Globe!
So whether it's Auden or Elliot, Kipling or Dahl, find one you love and learn it be heart. 💛
