Students Returning to School After Illness or Injury

We are committed to supporting students as they return to school following an illness, accident, or injury. Parents and carers are asked to speak with the school prior to their child's return and agree a risk assessment on the first day back. This ensures the child is fit to return, and that necessary adjustments or temporary restrictions are in place to support their safety and wellbeing, as well as that of others in the school. Please speak with your child's tutor in the first instance.

Care plans and medical conditions

To ensure we safeguard the wellbeing of your child correctly and efficiently, it is the parents or carers responsibility to update care plans and medical conditions with the school, via the online form found below. We advise parents or carers to update this yearly or if there are changes to the care and medical needs of your child following a medical appointment.

Asthma

If your child suffers from Asthma, they are required to carry their in date inhaler on them at all times. We ask that their inhaler can be named so it can be quickly returned if it is lost. It is the students responsibility to ensure they take it with them to break, lunch and all lessons, including PE. As a school we do hold an emergency asthma kit. However, to enable us to use this please sign the consent form here.

Anaphylaxis

If your child is at risk of anaphylaxis and has been prescribed an Adrenaline Auto Injector device it is vital that they carry one on them at all times, including break, lunch and all lessons, including PE. The school does hold two spare Adrenaline Auto Injector devices which can be used in an emergency. To enable us to use this please sign the consent form here.

First Aid

Our school medical room is located on the ground floor of the main school building opposite the Engagement office. If your child becomes injured or unwell whilst they are in school, they are able to go to the Engagement office and be seen by a qualified first aider. Where appropriate we will make contact with parents or carers to inform you that your child has visited the medical room or ask you to collect your child from school. In extreme events where a student has suffered a significant injury, a first aider will contact the emergency services to organise their care before contacting you.

Student Toilet Pass – Medical Eligibility

A Toilet Pass may be issued to students who have a genuine, ongoing medical or health need that requires access to the toilet during lesson time. The purpose of the pass is to support student wellbeing while ensuring safeguarding and learning routines are maintained.

Students may be eligible for a Toilet Pass if they have a diagnosed or documented condition that necessitates frequent or urgent toilet use. This may include, but is not limited to, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, urinary or bladder conditions, menstrual health conditions, or side effects of prescribed medication.

Evidence Required

To support an application, the school will require either a letter or report from a GP or Consultant.

Application Process

Parents/carers should contact the Medical Lead by emailing medical@woolmerhill.surrey.sch.uk  to request a Toilet Pass. When a pass is required, parents/carers will be asked to complete a Toilet Pass application form, which will be sent to them directly. All applications will be reviewed by the Medical Lead and the SENDCo, in consultation with the Head of Year and the Pastoral Team. Final approval will be made by the Medical Lead and the SENDCo.
