- Phil Taylor
Community Governor since 2024
“As a leader I was motivated by my character and my experience, I judge myself and ask to be judged by others by the quality of my actions and the integrity of my intent. These are manifested through fairness, honesty, decency, moral courage, and valuing all those I come into contact with. Positive relationships are the anchor that holds everything together.
These factors drive my passion in every aspect of my life”.
I believe this statement encapsulates what I am about not only in the workplace but also in my personal life.
I believe we are all a product of our experiences both positive and negative, I have tried to use the negative elements of my experiences, along with the positives as a platform for learning and growth rather than allow them to deter or deflect me.
Integrity is at my core it runs through everything I am about and do. It enabled me to be an effective leader and role model for future leaders within the custodial setting. A compromise on personal integrity is all too easy in the push and shove world in which we live. My integrity fuels the other key elements of my character enabling me to uphold fairness, honesty and decency in all aspects of my life.
I have shown the moral courage to take the tough decisions required of a leader whilst showing the compassion to listen to others, valuing one another and holding personal and professional relationships at the centre as a key to success.
As a leader in the Prison Service they guided me and enabled me to be successful for those I served.
Since retiring I have acted as a consultant for the International Centre for Prison Studies, acted as project manager for a National Offender Management Service/European Social Fund initiative to take staff training across national boundaries. Taken part in a prison system review in Armenia. For the last 10 years I have been the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Prison Advice and Care Trust. I am also Chair of the Board of Trustees at Three Counties Vineyard Church in Haslemere.
I gained a significant amount of knowledge and expertise within the custodial setting. I now want to take what I have learned and put it to good use in the school environment at Woolmer Hill. To enable our young people to develop to their full potential.
I believe that over many years working in a challenging and difficult sector at a high level amply demonstrates that I have the skills, experience and personal qualities to fulfil the role of Governor at Woolmer Hill.
I live in Grayshott with my wife Lesley, we have two children, one of whom is a teacher, and four beautiful grandchildren. Lesley and I love travelling and supporting our local community.
